This is my sketch for project 2. Hopefully it works. What do you think of the initial concept?

This is an unfinished sketch. I tried to show 2 point perspective with the building and sidewalk.

Support This!

Working with line. The shape of the ribbon is curvilinear. The "dumb" text forms a base for the stick figure to impale himself upon and is also implied since it continues from one side of the ribbon to the other. I wanted the text "consume" to create the implied shape of the heart but it was more difficult than I thought it would be. More than anything I am sick of seeing support ribbons on cars... since when does a magnetic ribbon support anything? I guess since sept 11th? Thats when I really saw them catch on... I think it makes people feel happy about something... "I put a pink ribbon on my car for breast cancer I did my part, and now I can focus on more important things like the super bowl and my neighbors barking, shitting, dog" I guess in the end tho, its only better for me... just another consumer for me to sell crap to as a graphic designer. As long as people keep following trends like this, I think I can make money off of them.

Balance

I had 3 things I was shooting for here. First we had to play with balance for this weeks blog. Second I wanted to try to make this sketch look torn or crumpled and I went with folded instead. Lastly I am also trying to do some posters, flyers or some graphics for charity events.
This is just a concept I was working with, this charity event is already over and Im pretty sure more than one person was participating.

GDS 108 sketch 2

I Like the images that you find in the Farmers Almanac. They remind me of a time when artists, doctors and scientists collaborated. Like in "The Gross Clinic" there was a time before Aseptic procedures and knowledge of the human body was refined. Often an artist was present when early doctors disected their stolen bodies to document visually the inner workings of the human body. Before that even, many scientists believed the body to be effected by many outside sources such as the heavens. Still today many will attest that durring a full moon people are chaotic and wreckless... babies are born... accidents happen. About the same time scientists and adventurers like Lewis and Clark were exploring and documenting new plants, animals and peoples and whos job do you think it was to visually document all that? I honestly believe if I had lived durring those times I would have given everything I had to be one of the artists with Lewis and Clark... this is just a sketch that reminds me of a wildly scientific time that required artists.

GDS_sketch1

I wanted to Illustrate the idea of getting carried away in thought.

Artist's Statement

God played a joke on me by giving me such a deep curiosity and inquisitivness yet, giving me the knowlege of nothing so that my work can never be done. I simply want to take people on my journey for a few minutes.
